Eng. Ashur Sargon Eskrya, president of the Assyrian Aid Society-Iraq, on an invitation of the Estonian Institute for Human Rights, participated in the event of the annual human rights conference 2019 held in the capital of Estonia, Tallinn, Dec. 9th - 10th, titled “Parallel World Values ​​and Interests" On occasion of the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which coincident on December 10th of every year.

 

The conference consisted of four panels:

1.       I panel: Are universal human rights even possible in different cultures?

2.       II panel: What challenges does climate change pose to human rights?

3.       III panel: Will technological advancement run down human rights?

4.       IV panel: What will happen to human rights with the onslaught of populism?

 

“When it comes to human rights, a state cannot limit itself to only protecting the rights of certain minorities. A state must strive to protect the human rights of all people and approach all of them in the same way. Also the rights of the majority and regular people – the right to life and safety, which are no less important than the freedom of expression, assembly or religion and socio-economic rights.” Mart Nutt

 

The President of AASI participated on the first panel, referring to the conditions in which our people live, the systematic violations of human rights that our people faced and still, and the need to establish and protect their rights constitutionally. The panel was moderated by journalist Hille Hanso.

 

The president of the Republic of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid, spoke on the second panel of the challenges human rights pose to climate change. This panel was moderated by Toomas Tiivel, biologist and diplomat

 

The conference was attended by many international personalities, representatives of countries and civil society organizations.
